A child has died and another is fighting for life after a horror crash on Sydney’s M5 during peak-hour traffic.

Emergency crews were called after a truck collided with three cars travelling east bound, just east of Belmore Road, at Riverwood at 8.20am on Wednesday.

One child died at the scene and another child, also travelling in the same vehicle, was rushed to hospital.

All four drivers – two women and two men – have been taken to hospital for mandatory testing and treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

A 12-year-old girl was taken to Sydney’s Children Hospital in a serious condition, another child suffered head injuries and was taken to St George serious.

Footage also shows a woman being freed from a black car that had its left rear crushed in the crash. 

She can be seen being hauled on to a stretcher by fire crews and paramedics. 

Police are currently at the scene and traffic is being diverted via Belmore Rd, Canterbury Rd and King Georges Rd. 

Motorists have been urged to avoid the area.
