Fears have been raised that a crocodile may have eaten a human after farm workers found an orthopaedic plate inside its stomach.

Workers at Koorana Crocodile Farm, in Queensland, made the chilling find while performing an autopsy on the recently deceased beast named MJ.

‘Imagine our surprise when we opened up the gut on this large croc and found what looks to be an orthopaedic plate,’ a post from the farm read on Tuesday.

‘So what has MJ been up to?

‘He was a wild caught croc from Queensland that we purchased from another farm years ago. No staff and no pets are missing here! So, for now it’s a mystery…

‘Regardless, he should have been eaten something with more nutritional value!’

Social media users have been speculating about where the orthopaedic plate may have come from, with many assuming there might be another death that needs solving.

‘Maybe he’s been chewing on some surgical waste that was illegally dumped. I would hate to think otherwise,’ a woman wrote on the post.

‘I’d be asking the missing persons unit,’ another person said.

‘Looks like someone had to dispose of a body….’ said another.

Whenever a crocodile dies at the farm the workers always open up their stomachs in a bid to figure out the cause of death.

Workers usually find rocks, onion bags, broken bottles, hooks and plastic – but they had never found an orthopaedic plate before.

Owner John Lever told the ABC he had been trying to track down where the device had come from.

‘We’re trying to track it down to see whether it’s one used in the veterinary industry or the medical industry.

He said he would pass the device over to the police once the results came back.

‘I’d let them have a look at the plate to see if they wanted to do any forensics on it.

‘But I can’t see they’re going to get anything from this plate if it’s been in a crocodile’s stomach for six years — that we know of — and probably another six to 20 (years) before that.’
