A disturbing body camera video has emerged as part of a federal lawsuit filed against the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office in California, showing a deputy blindly shooting into a hotel room and striking an unarmed woman.

The lawsuit filed by Alexis Resendez in August states that after shooting her just below her heart, Deputy Rommel Verenzuela forced her to crawl toward him down a hotel hallway.

The body camera video recorded on June 14, 2019, shows deputies scouring the Best Western hotel in Delano, California, in search of Resendez’s boyfriend, 19-year-old Arturo Galvan, who was a suspect in an earlier drive-by shooting.

As the door to one room begins opening, Verenzuela fires inside while sprinting past it.

ABC Action News, which obtained the video, reported that the deputy moved so fast that his camera did not catch a glimpse of the open door.

The video shows Resendez screaming in agony while lying on her stomach on the carpeted floor in the hallway.

‘Show me your hands!’ the deputy screams at the wounded woman. ‘Crawl to me!’

The deputy asks her if he’s hit, to which she replies, ‘Yes,’ then again orders her to make her way to him.

Resendez sobs and she slowly crawls toward the deputies, who ask her where her boyfriend is.

The woman replies that he had jumped out the window and was captured by officers.

While waiting for an ambulance to arrive, Resendez asks the deputies: ‘Why’d you guys shoot me?’

Verenzuela replies: ‘we heard the shots and someone opened the door, OK? We didn’t know if it was going to be him coming out.’

Delano police officer shot and killed Resendez’ boyfriend and the father of her four-year-old son, Galvan, as soon as he reached the ground after escaping from the hotel room through the window.

Neither Galvan nor his girlfriend were armed at the time of the incident, and police reportedly have found no evidence linking the man to the drive-by shooting.

The City of Delano has since paid Galvan’s family more than $2million before they even had a chance to file a lawsuit.

Resendez has not been charged with any crime in connection to the incident. Her lawsuit is scheduled to go to trial in 2021.
