Chilling moment Florida school shooter calmly walks away

When Nikolas Cruz walked away from the brutal carnage he left behind at the school, he seemed calm and not in a hurry.

Footage from the Chai Center Chabad shows the 19-year-old making his way towards a McDonald’s, on Wednesday, where he then sat for a moment.

For approximately one hour and ten minutes, Cruz casually strolled through the neighborhood close to Marjory Stoneman Douglas in Parkland, Florida.

The scene would appear to be taken around 3pm in the afternoon, which was after Cruz stopped at a Subway and bought a beverage.

Cruz reportedly did not purchase anything inside the McDonald’s and left soon after.

He would be apprehended, roughly 40 minutes after leaving the popular food chain.

The school shooter had taken an Uber to the school to begin his carnage, and afterwards stopped at fast food chains.

Nikolas Cruz, 19, who was living with another family after his mother died, was supposed to go to GED classes, but when the father woke him up to drop him off on his way to work, he said something to the effect of ‘It’s Valentine’s Day. I don’t go to school on Valentine’s Day,’ according to a lawyer for the family.

‘They just blew it off,’ attorney Jim Lewis said. ‘This is some 19-year-old that didn’t want to get up and go to school that day, and (they) left it at that.’

At 2:06pm, Cruz took an Uber to the school he was expelled from, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, in Parkland.

Uber is currently working with authorities, and the company has declined to say if Cruz’s driver noticed anything off about their passenger on Wednesday.

Authorities say Cruz told officers he ‘brought additional loaded magazines to the school campus and kept them hidden in a backpack until he got on campus to begin his assault.’

Authorities say after Cruz fled by blending in with students. At 2:50pm he entered the nearby Walmart and got a drink at Subway inside of a Walmart (pictured)

He was armed with an AR-15 rifle, and was wearing a vest that was holding additional ammunition.

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel said the suspect arrived at the high school at 2:19 p.m. Wednesday, entering the east stairwell with a rifle inside a black, soft case.

‘The suspect exited the stairwell and pulled the rifle out of the case at 2:21pm local time. He then readied his rifle and began shooting into rooms 1215, 1216, 1214 … he then went back into 1216, 1215 and then to 1213.’

‘The suspect then took the west stairwell to the second floor and shot one victim in room 1234 on the second floor. The suspect then took the east stairwell to the third floor … he then dropped his rifle and backpack containing extra ammunition and ran down the stairs … exiting building 12 and ran toward the tennis courts.’

Police say he exited building 12 at 2:28pm.

Both the vest and the rifle were later recovered by police.

‘The suspect then turned west and tried to mix in with students who were trying to run away fearing for their lives, Sheriff Israel said Thursday.

‘The suspect then arrived at a Walmart store and bought a drink at the Subway and left the Walmart on foot.’

According to the police timeline, he arrived at Walmart at 2:50pm.

‘The suspect then arrived at a McDonald’s and sat down for a short period of time around 3:01 p.m. and he left on foot.’

‘At 3:41 p.m., 40 minutes after leaving McDonald’s, the suspect was detained at 4700 Wyndham Lakes Drive in Coral Springs, by an officer with the Coconut Creek Police Department,’ Sheriff Israel concluded.

Coconut Creek police officer Michael Leonard spotted Cruz walking down a nearby residential street after responding from his neighboring precinct.

‘He looked like a typical high school student and for a quick moment, I thought could this be the person?’ Leonard said. ‘Is this who I need to stop?’

Leonard said he pulled over and confronted the suspected 19-year-old mass murderer.

‘He complied with my commands and was taken into custody without any issues,’ the officer said.

After he was arrested, he was first taken to an area hospital before being taken to police headquarters.

He confessed to the shooting spree that left 17 dead.

Cruz legally purchased the AR-15 rifle used in the assault at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, in February of 2017, according to authorities.

Cruz brought it to the family’s home, where he moved into around Thanksgiving.

It was kept in a locked cabinet that the teen had a key to.

Two federal law enforcement officials said the Smith & Wesson M&P rifle was purchased legally at Sunrise Tactical Supply in Coral Springs, Florida.

Federal law allows people 18 and over to legally purchase long guns. At 21, people can legally buy handguns from a licensed dealer.

He was ordered to be held without bond during a hearing on Thursday afternoon.

Immediately after his mother died, Cruz temporarily moved into a family friend’s in the Lantana Cascade mobile-home neighborhood.

Several weeks later he was taken into a friend’s home in Parkland. He was staying with that family at the time of the shooting.
