This is the touching moment a baby chimpanzee was rescued from heartbreaking conditions by a wildlife charity fighting the illegal animal trade in Africa.

In the clip, which was filmed at Mefou Primate Park in Cameroon on September 9th, 10-month-old Farah is seen arriving at the sanctuary in the back of a car.

According to Ape Action Africa, the chimp was ‘cold, tired and thirsty’ after the gruelling 400km journey.

But when a male member of staff tries to take him out of the car he is terrified and resists.

The man tries reassures the animal by holding out his hand and stroking Farah’s nose. Eventually, he allows the man to pick him up.

With the help of a colleague, the man takes the animal into an enclosure full of leaves, telling him: ‘Look at it, it’s beautiful!’

After some resistance, the thirsty chimp allows a woman to give him some water out of a baby’s bottle.

Farah was confiscated from a wildlife trafficker who had been trying to sell him as a pet after killing the baby’s mother.

The orphaned chimp will now be rehabilitated and integrated into a chimpanzee social group.
