Mr Li told Pear Video that the incident happened in Changchun, Jilin Province, last Tuesday.

The man said: ‘I had had a few drinks with my friends and threw the bottles into a bin in my backyard. I suspected some of the alcohol spilled onto my chinchilla’s food in the bin as well.’

The chipmunk might have eaten the alcohol-soaked pellets and nuts in the rubbish bin, suspected Mr Li.
