That really is a golden egg…Chocolate Easter treats for those with an expensive taste can cost up to £250
- Harrods’ 3.9lb Easter Showstopper Peacock Feather Egg will set you back £250
- The egg has bread-and-butter filling and is for ‘superior chocolate’ connoisseurs
Children have been spending their Easter Sundays gleefully hunting for chocolate eggs throughout the past century.
But with gold leaf coatings and price tags exceeding the £200 mark, some Easter eggs on today’s shop shelves are probably not for the kids and should probably not be hidden at the bottom of the garden.
The rapidly expanding, hyper-expensive Easter egg market has seen a traditionally cheap and cheerful gift transform into a something that can signal the extremes of wealth and luxury.
Sold exclusively through their personal shopper service, Harrods are currently offering a 3.9lb Easter Showstopper Peacock Feather Egg – which will set you back a mere £250.

According to the Knightsbridge department store’s website, the egg comes with their ‘signature bread-and-butter filling’ and is designed ‘for those who appreciate superior chocolate, painstaking detail and luxury in every sense of the word’.
Another ‘showstopper’ egg to buy this Easter is the £130, gold-leaf coated speciality egg from Chelsea-based Birley Bakery, which weighs only 9oz.
Having only opened in January 2023, the bakery is producing 30 of these golden eggs which are made with 80 per cent dark chocolate from the Philippines that took three months to develop.
On the comparatively cheaper end is Hotel Chocolat’s Classic Ostrich Egg which costs £86 for over 2lb of ‘top-quality, high-cacao chocolate’.
