Chontel Duncan showcases fluid retention in foot pregnant

For some women, fluid retention is a common side effect of being pregnant.

But not many suffer the visual difference that Chontel Duncan has experienced between her two pregnancies.

The Brisbane-based personal trainer and founder of HIIT Australia, 28, shared a dramatic comparison photograph of her right foot during her first pregnancy, and the same foot during her second.

In the first pregnancy, Chontel’s foot swelled to near double the size – while in the second she swears she’s done absolutely nothing differently – but it remains as normal.

‘Creating foot phobias around the world with this post,’ Chontel wrote.

‘But this is the raw truth on how bad my fluid got towards the end of my first pregnancy.

‘Second time round I have done nothing different, but have absolutely no fluid.’

The 28-year-old captioned her post with the hashtags: ‘#eatyourheartout’, ‘#footmodel’, ‘#footfetishnation’, ‘#pregnant’ and ‘#fluidretention’.

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia about the difference, Chontel said her midwife told her there ‘is no science behind it’:

‘She did say that if a woman falls pregnant with the same partner, then they don’t get fluid retention quite often,’ she admitted.

‘I tried weekly remedial massages and acupuncture to help to reduce the fluid and swelling, but nothing worked. Towards the end, my fluid got so bad, when removing the acupuncture needles liquid would begin leaking out.’

Since Chontel uploaded the snap onto her Instagram page on Tuesday morning, the fitness pro has received a swell of confusion and support from her online followers.

‘Maybe it’s a girl this time?,’ one commenter joked.

‘That doesn’t even look like the same foot. That’s crazy, I never retained any water and I had five babies,’ another person added.

Chontel Duncan is currently 39 weeks pregnant and expecting her second child this week on Wednesday.

The Brisbane-based PT made headlines last year, when she maintained her abs while eight and a half months pregnant, and has since continued to work out right up until this week while expecting.

‘At the very latest we have less then a week till the baby will be here,’ Chontel captioned the clip she uploaded last week – which shows her lifting, pressing and even rowing on the rowing machine.

‘Baby is fully posterior. Has a bigger head than Jeremiah did at birth, is measuring bigger overall than Jeremiah,’ she continued.

‘And at yesterday’s appointment I saw that I still have plenty of room in there for baby to grow much bigger.

‘What size do you all think baby will be? Jeremiah was seven pounds and 13 ounces, and this baby at our last measuring scan (two weeks ago) was over seven pounds already.’
