Chris Eubank Sr has claimed his son’s life was in the balance after his epic battle with Conor Benn on Saturday night.

Chris Eubank Jr beat his arch-rival Benn on points in a 12-round epic that left both men struggling to stand up at the end of it.

The two fighters were taken to hospital for precautionary checks afterwards, and Eubank Sr has now revealed his son’s health was a major concern as he was tended to by medics.

Eubank Sr admitted seeing his son in distress took him back to 1991 when his opponent Michael Watson suffered life-changing brain injuries following their brutal bout.

‘It just brought me back all those years ago to think about what Michael went through, and I was feeling and seeing and hearing all of that,’ Eubank Sr explained on his Call Chris Eubank YouTube channel.

‘And I’m saying to myself, people don’t know, but my son is touch and go. And the only way we’re going to know whether he’s going to be okay is after the CT scans.

‘He suffered mostly in the hospital because of dehydration, even though the beating was severe.’

Eubank Sr tragically lost one his sons, Sebastian, back in 2021 when he suffered a fatal heart attack in Dubai.

He revealed he was reminded of that traumatic experience while he watched over Chris Jr in the hours after Saturday’s fight.

‘Jr was lying down on a stretcher and he was sensitive to light, so he always had a towel and something over his eyes,’ Eubank Sr said as he fought back tears.

‘He had a shroud around him, around his eyes and head, and just his beard poking out. And in that moment he looked exactly like Sebastian, the spitting image.

‘It’s real for us.’

Eubank Jr was released from hospital on Monday after around 36 hours of medical attention.

A rematch with Benn could await Eubank Jr next, while a jump up to super-middleweight to challenge Mexican great Canelo Alvarez is also a possibility.

But after dramatically reuniting with his son just hours before Saturday’s bout, Eubank Sr would now like to see Jr walk away from the sport for good.

‘My son was in a touch-and-go situation,’ Eubank Sr added. ‘Life or death.

‘He doesn’t respect that because he is a warrior and a warrior goes out on his shield, which he proved. He’s not going to listen to the rules. If he can evade and sidestep the rules, he will, because he is a warrior.

‘It would be an extraordinary blessing for him, if he was wise enough to walk off into the sunset, there is nothing cooler than that, you cannot buy that.’
