He’s a former captain of two AFL teams, a two-time Brownlow medallist, and the husband of Australia’s highest-profile WAG.
But it seems not everyone can instantly recognise Chris Judd, as the 34-year-old was denied entry into Melbourne’s Ikon Park Stadium last week.
On The AFL Footy Show on Thursday night, Chris joked that the ‘young bloke’ who denied him entry into the pre-season game without a ticket deserved to be ‘sacked’.
‘He got himself sacked!’: Bec Judd’s AFL legend hubby Chris jokes that stadium employee who denied him entry into a game in February deserved to be fired for failing to recognise him
Chris did not have a ticket to the event, but has previously said he didn’t usually need a ticket.
‘Nor should I have to (bring a ticket) after what I did for the competition for 14 years!’ he joked to Footy Show co-host Eddie McGuire on Triple M this week.
He told the audience that after the interview, he was heavily criticised by listeners.
Is that you, Chris? It seems not everyone can instantly recognise the West Coast Eagles legend, as the 34-year-old was denied entry into Melbourne’s Ikon Park Stadium last week
‘I received a fair bit of vitriol from the keyboard warriors, about the inference that I got the young bloke who wouldn’t let me in sacked,’ he said with a cheeky smile.
‘Did you?’ Eddie asked.
‘Well I just want to make it clear: he got himself sacked by not letting me in!’ Chris replied.
The audience and panellists laughed at what appeared to be a joke, although it was never confirmed whether the Ikon Park Stadium employee was fired or reprimanded.
Backlash: ‘I received a fair bit of vitriol from the keyboard warriors, about the inference that I got the young bloke who wouldn’t let me in sacked,’ he said of the employee who denied him entry
Chris continued: ‘He’s going to be a better person for it, so it’s a great opportunity all round.’
Co-host Rebecca Maddern replied jokingly: ‘There’s nothing like being on The Footy Show and having your ego squashed.’
Eddie asked how Chris could ensure he would never run into the same issue again.
He did it to himself: ‘Well I just want to make it clear: he got himself sacked by not letting me in!’ Chris said
‘I’ve taken matters into my own hands,’ he replied, before producing his premiership and Brownlow medals from under the table.
He put them over his neck and quipped: ‘I just figure I’m gunna start wearing these two things around my head.’
‘People think that’s obnoxious – I don’t feel that – I just think if I wear these around, I feel pretty good about it!’
Unclear: The audience and panellists laughed at what appeared to be a joke, although it was never confirmed whether the Ikon Park Stadium employee was reprimanded for failing to recognise Chris from his playing days
On Wednesday, Chris confirmed that he was eventually granted entry into the stadium, via a different entrance.
‘And actually, a couple of the staff saw it happening (Chris being denied) and were sort of marching towards the next gate to make sure it wasn’t two from two,’ he said.
