Chris Packham leaves Autumnwatch viewers aghast by ‘casually’ reminiscing about how he ‘French kissed a FOX’ when he was a boy

  • Presenter made confession while speaking to stepdaughter Megan McCubbin
  • Pair had been watching a video of a fox sneaking milk from a bottle in Bristol
  • He went on to explain how ‘being French kissed by a fox is a badge of honour’

Chris Packham left Autumnwatch viewers aghast last night when he ‘casually’ began reminiscing about how he ‘French kissed’ his pet fox as a child.

The presenter, 56, was speaking to his stepdaughter Megan McCubbin, 25, during the BBC Two wildlife show when he made the odd confession on Tuesday.

The pair had been watching a video of a fox sneaking milk left outside a home in Bristol, which appeared to spark Packham’s memory about his childhood pet.

Speaking about the clip, he said: ‘I like the way it sticks its little tongue in [the bottle]. Foxes have got quite strong, narrow, rectangular tongues.

‘At one point I had a pet fox when I was a kid and I used to tease it by putting food in my mouth.

‘The fox would come up and every now and again it would put its tongue in my mouth and it would push it up underneath my lip.

‘And it’s not like a dog’s tongue when they slip their tongue in occasionally when they’re kissing you, this is a fox tongue you know.’

After spotting the uncomfortable reaction of his stepdaughter, he joked: ‘Come on, being French kissed by a fox is a badge of honour.’

Ms McCubbin responded: ‘It’s a badge of honour for you but Chris there are some things you should keep to yourself.’

The zoologist then swiftly moved on to discuss how the fox in the video had managed to remove bottle caps with its teeth, as Chris watched on sheepishly from the side.

Another said: ‘Chris Packham talking about being French kissed by a fox is not something I expected to see tonight.’

A third viewer joked: ‘I’ve heard Chris Packham called a “silver fox” but snogging a fox with aggressive tongue action is a tad far…’

Others said the presenter had been ‘demoted from their top three’ after the confession.

One woman said: ‘Well, I wasn’t expecting Chris Packham to talk about French kissing a fox.’
