CHRIS SUTTON: As a player, I would demand answers from Antonio Conte TODAY… the Tottenham boss calculated his attack – and he knew what he was doing!
- Harry Kane should demand answers if he has problems after Saturday’s draw
- Antonio Conte is not blameless as he is still yet to commit to the club long term
- It’s hard to see how his position as manager is still tenable after the long rant
Antonio Conte, like a manager wanting to be put out of his misery, took aim at everybody.
The owner, for being a failure. The players, for having no heart. The supporters, for daring to think they deserve a trophy. Nobody at Tottenham was spared.
Conte knew what he was doing. His attack was calculated and if I was in the dressing room, I’d be thinking, ‘Are you talking about me?’.
I once had something similar at Blackburn. Roy Hodgson had a right pop at the players in his press conference. So the next day, I asked him if he was talking about me. He wasn’t!
But if Harry Kane has any problem with Conte after the 3-3 draw with Southampton he should demand answers today.

Conte isn’t blameless. He won’t commit beyond his contract — how can Tottenham move forward with that hanging over them?
He also made subs against Southampton that didn’t work, so he cannot only point the finger at the players.
This attack felt like it was a long time coming and the result gave him the perfect excuse to unload.
Conte went nuclear with his comments. It’s hard to see how his position is still tenable.
