‘He’s a joke!’: Chris Sutton calls out Patrick Bamford for his thinly-veiled digs at Leeds manager Jesse Marsch’s tactics – hours before he was sacked – and suggests he ’caused trouble’

Chris Sutton has slammed Patrick Bamford as ‘a joke’ after the Leeds striker seemed to criticise Jesse Marsch’s tactics following their 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
The American was dismissed as Leeds boss after the game with the club languishing in 17th place and having not won in seven games.
The Whites dominated much of the clash at the City Ground, but missed a series of first half chances and then struggled to break down a resolute Forest in the second period.
After the game, Bamford had appeared to question Marsch as he claimed Forest’s defenders had enjoyed an easy afternoon as they ‘just had me to concentrate on’.
Bamford had also said: ‘We needed more runners running past me to drag [Forest’s centre-backs] out of position and create a bit more space. ‘

Bamford appeared to criticise the former Leeds boss in public when he spoke after the match
‘The whole game was literally two-v-one, which made it difficult, and unfortunately I couldn’t find the answers to solve that.’
However, Sutton was not happy with Bamford and believed he had made a mistake by speaking out about his manager in public.
‘Keep it in the confines of the dressing room if that’s the way you feel,’ Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live’s Monday Night Club.
‘He’s unburdening himself of any responsibility. I don’t like that. He’s not daft – he knows the implications that it will have.
‘It will be taken as a criticism of the manager and his tactics. He’s a joke for bringing that into the public domain.
‘[Bamford] doesn’t strike me as somebody who wouldn’t understand where comments like this would lead.
‘He’s criticising the manager, the tactics. Things like this snowball. It’s great he’s honest – but it’s only going to cause trouble.’
Bamford struggled for form under Marsch, with the striker having netted only three goals over the past two Premier League seasons as he has battled several injury problems.

It is a far cry from the 17 goals he scored during the 2020-21 season on Leeds’ return to the top flight that saw him called up to the England squad in August 2021.
Managerless Leeds are back in action on Wednesday when they take on Manchester United at Old Trafford.
