Out and about: Christian Bale, 43, on Friday was seen looking full-figured as he made his way out of a Brentwood, California restaurant
Bale kept it simple in a black T-shirt and baggy black cargo pants with white shoes. He had a short-cropped hairdo and had his phone and keys in his hand as he made his way out of the restaurant.
The Oscar-winner told Variety last week he’s ‘just been eating a lot of pies’ as he prepares to physically resemble Cheney, who served under President George W. Bush between 2001 and 2009.
The time marked a tumultuous period in American history that served as the backdrop to the September 11, 2011 attacks, the Iraq War and the economic collapse of 2008.
Bale is flanked by an all-star supporting cast in the movie, as Amy Adams will play Lynne Cheney, while Steve Carell will play Donald Rumsfeld, the Bush administration’s defense secretary, Bill Pullman playing Nelson Rockefeller and Sam Rockwell playing Bush.
Dedicated: The entertainer has a long history of changing his body, sometimes drastically, to tailor himself to the roles he’s playing
Center-of-attention: The entertainer was trailed by autograph seekers this week at LAX
Meaty roles: Bale co-stars with Amy Adams and Steve Carrell in the upcoming biography of Cheney
Cheney has a rich political resume, as he was also involved in the Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford administrations prior to serving under Bush.
Bale, following in the tradition of another venerated actor in his American Hustle co-star Robert DeNiro, has a track record of altering his physical appearance to adjust for roles.
Scary skinny: Bale shed 70 pounds to weigh 120 pounds for his role in 2004’s The Machinist
Sculpted: The actor worked out religiously to achieve a sleek, toned look for the 2000 movie American Psycho
Bulky: Bale put on weight for his 2013 role in American Hustle playing flimflam man Irving Rosenfeld
For the 2000 motion picture American Psycho, Bale got chiseled to play his role of Patrick Bateman, keeping the muscular look for the 2002 action adventure Reign of Fire.
He took things in the other direction in 2004 for the The Machinist, losing 70 pounds to weigh 120 pounds to look emaciated in playing the role of Trevor Reznik.
Bale was back to buff for 2005’s Batman Begins, and down again in weight for his Academy Award-winning turn in Dicky Eklund in 2010. He had a beefier look for his 2013 role in American Hustle playing flimflam man Irving Rosenfeld. He told People of his preparation for the part: ‘I ate lots of doughnuts, a whole lot of cheeseburgers and whatever I could get my hands on. I literally ate anything that came my way.’
