Christian Eriksen admits future is out of his hands with Man United deal expiring in the summer – despite Danish star enjoying Old Trafford renaissance

Christian Eriksen has cast doubt on his Manchester United future, conceding he will have no control on whether he stays at Old Trafford beyond this season.

Speaking alongside his manager here in Istanbul ahead of Thursday night’s Europa League clash against Fenerbahce, the Dane awkwardly navigated a question on whether his deal, which expires at the end of this current season, could be extended.

‘It’s not really up to me when my contract runs out, it’s up to the club,’ he said.

‘I am enjoying it here. When the summer comes if the offer is there I will definitely take it seriously.’

Eriksen recently revealed while away on international duty that contract talks are not ongoing at this moment but club sources have indicated to Mail Sport that they are relaxed about the situation at this stage in the season.

The 32-year-old has enjoyed a renaissance this season and is one of only three fit midfielders that has travelled out to Turkey for this third instalment of the Europa League campaign.

Eriksen scored in the 1-1 draw against FC Twente before producing two assists in the 3-3 thriller away to FC Porto.

Asked about his increase in playing time in recent weeks following an uptick in form, the Dane was eager not to get carried away.

‘Some games you play and some you don’t,’ he added.

‘I’ve been in and out last two seasons but I definitely enjoy playing for Manchester United. The manager makes the decisions who is playing and you do your best when you can.’

With Bruno Fernandes suspended for this clash – one of 10 first team absentees – Ten Hag will need to lean on players like Eriksen for key attacking contributions, especially in a febrile atmosphere that always awaits English teams in Turkey.

‘I think we have enough players in the team,’ the United boss said.

‘We are so experienced, we have faced such situations often. We are looking forward and [will try to] create an ambience which is fuel for the team. [It is] a challenge, it’s motivation, it’s good for us.’
