Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen was able to celebrate a notable national milestone on Saturday.

The 25-year-old’s goal in the 3-2 win at West Ham made him the highest-scoring Dane in the Premier League – overtaking none other than former Arsenal forward Nicklas Bendtner.

Eriksen, who has now scored 33 league goals since he joined from Ajax in 2013, has now joined a long list of footballers who stand as the leading goalscorers of their nation in England’s top flight division.

With his recent strike Christian Eriksen became the Premier League’s top scoring Dane

A vast array of players feature, including the likes of Paulo Wanchope – the leading scorer for Costa Rica – and Nolberto Solano – the leading scorer for Peru.

Following his record setting strike Eriksen told Spurs’ official website: ‘of course I’m very happy I’m above Bendtner now.

‘I’ve moved him to the side and of course it’s not the last goal.’

Two goals from Harry Kane before half-time put Spurs in the driving seat, and they looked to be comfortably on the road to victory when Eriksen drilled in the third.

But Javier Hernandez pulled one back after 65 minutes, before Spurs right-back Serge Aurier was sent off amd Cheikhou Kouyate halved the deficit with three minutes remaining to give the contest a frenetic final flourish.

However, Tottenham held on to extend their unbeaten run to six games in all competitions.

‘It looks easy when you are 3-0 up but when you have 10 men and they score they get a lot of confidence,’ added Eriksen.

‘They want to go forward, they have the eagerness to win the second ball, more than we did at some times.

‘It was a difficult game and we made it difficult.’
