Claire Foy reveals co-star Rooney Mara snuck a FART machine onto the set of new movie Women Talking

Claire Foy has revealed co-star Rooney Mara snuck a fart machine onto the set of their new movie Women Talking to lighten the mood.

The Crown actress, 38, stars in the the Oscar nominated film which follows the true story of men drugging and raping women in a Mennonite colony. 

Speaking on Zoe Ball’s Breakfast Show on Friday she said: ‘You’ve got to do things [on set] a thousand times so Rooney secretly brought in a fart machine and that was us for two days!’.

She laughed: ‘It makes us sounds so unprofessional but …it was all part of the craft’.

The movie, directed by Sarah Polley, also stars Frances McDormand, Jessie Buckley and Ben Whishaw.  

Claire went on to discuss the challenge of playing a member of the isolated community during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show – which airs Friday.

Hart hitting: The Oscar-nominated film follows a group women in an isolated religious colony struggle to reconcile with their faith after a series of sexual assaults

She said: ‘We had no hair and makeup at all and wore polyester dresses so what got us through filming was the thought of a party at the end when we could wear makeup and shave our legs’.

‘I thought not worrying about shaving would be a real moment of empowerment but actually it was horrible and reminded me of puberty!’.

Claire looked gorgeous for television appearance in a black lace gown complete with white tuxedo bib detailing.

She was joined in the show alongside actress Sarah Michelle Gellar, The Sixth Sense director and writer M. Night Shyamalan, comic Rob Beckett, and singer  Sam Smith. 

Claire, who played Queen Elizabeth II for the first two series of The Crown, also discussed discussed returning in flashback scenes in the latest season and gushed about the current cast. 

 ‘I went back and did it again because it is a lovely thing to do and I really love Imelda (Staunton), I think she is amazing.’

Style: She layered the coat over high-waisted jeans and a a simple alabaster sweater

Claire also revealed that she might be forced to miss the Academy Awards where her latest film has been nominated for Best Picture as well as Best Adapted Screenplay. 

‘There are 12 of us in the cast so it depends on who they pick to go with them. It’s my child’s birthday that day so I probably shouldn’t go’. 

Before adding: ‘Either way I’ll have a great time!’.
