Claire Sweeney is awkwardly snubbed TWICE as she tries to high-five oblivious Eurovision commentary winner in clumsy encounter

Claire Sweeney was awkwardly snubbed twice as she tried to high-five an oblivious Eurovision commentary winner on Monday’s episode of The One Show.

Joining Kevin Duala at the Radio BBC Radio Merseyside headquarters, the actress, 52, met up with competition finalist Paul.

During the segment presenter Kevin, 58, excitedly revealed that the hopeful was actually the winner and would be co-hosting the radio show alongside Claire.

Attempting to congratulate her new co-worker, who will deliver a scouse commentary on the Eurovision final, Claire went in for an ill-fated high five.

Paul hilariously left the actress hanging as he turned around to hug Kevin and chat with him.

Undefeated, she decided to try for a second high five but was ignored again, giving Paul a clumsy pat on the back instead before asking: ‘How about that high five now?’

The Voice Of Merseyside will join the broadcasting team at the BBC to support local coverage of the music competition, which is being hosted in Liverpool.

Speaking ahead of the announcement, Claire said: ‘I’m made up to be part of BBC Radio Merseyside’s Voice of Eurovision – I love Eurovision and I’m so excited that it’s coming to Liverpool.

‘It’ll be the first time ever that people will be able to hear a Eurovision commentary in scouse – I can’t wait!’

It comes after Claire said she has been ‘manifesting’ landing a role on Coronation Street for 15 years.

The actress gushed that her dream had come true as she prepares to start filming on the hit ITV soap on Friday.

The former Brookside star will take on character Cassie, the mother of Weatherfield mechanic Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall), and revealed she is set to cause major problems for him.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain on Thursday, she said: ‘Whenever I get interviewed they say, “If you can do any soap what would it be” and I always said Coronation Street.’

She continued: ‘I’ve kind of been manifesting it for 15 years and now it’s come true.’

‘Alan is such a wonderful actor, he was so brilliant when I auditioned with him. Also Dame Maureen Lipman I’m such a fan of hers.’

Claire, who will make her Corrie screen debut in June, also revealed a little more about her character as she prepares to cause drama for Evelyn and Tyrone.

Tyrone previously believed his mother was dead after being told by Evelyn (Dame Maureen) that she had passed away.

Claire continued: ‘Tyrone was always led to believe that Jackie was his mum and she wasn’t his mum. And then he was told that his mum is dead, so that is the twist. I turn up on the Cobbles and I’m a bit unruly.’
