Queensland Fire and Emergency services said firefighters were confronted by a massive blaze before bringing it under control at 6:30am.

Charlotte Davis, whose parents are living at the complex, said she was on the phone to her mother when the fire broke out.

‘I think they had a bit of trouble getting out. They copped a bit of smoke,’ she told Courier Mail.

Resident Anne Nioa recalled hearing the fire alarm go off around 4.45am.

‘There was a little bit of smoke but I think the main problem has been on the roof,’ she said.
