Cleaner: These are the three ‘red flag’ clients I would never go near when looking for new homes to clean

  • A professional cleaner has listed the three ‘red flag’ clients she avoids at work
  • These include people who say ‘it’s not that bad, it shouldn’t take too long’
  • Kacie, from the Big Clean Co, also avoids people who have had lots of cleaners
  • She thinks it must be the client rather than the cleaner who is the problem
  • Finally, Kacie avoids clients who try and drive down the price from the start

A professional cleaner has listed the three ‘red flag’ clients she wouldn’t go anywhere near when looking for new work, and it’s bad news if you’ve ever been someone who says ‘it’s not that bad, it shouldn’t take too long’.

Kacie, who runs The Big Clean Co in Melbourne, said she has been ‘in the industry’ long enough to know a warning sign when she sees one – and there are three types of people she doesn’t trust in her line of work.

‘The first is when somebody says “it’s not that bad, it shouldn’t take too long”,’ Kacie explained in a TikTok video.

‘In my experience that often means it hasn’t been cleaned in over six months but I just don’t want to pay much, so I get a little suspicious on that statement.’

The second type of person Kacie said she frequently encounters is a potential client who says they have ‘been through a lot of cleaners and just can’t find a good one’.

‘I always think to myself; is it the cleaner or is it the client who is the problem here,’ she said.

Finally, Kacie said she takes issue when somebody tries to negotiate the price:

‘If a client doesn’t already value what we do, then in my experience it doesn’t get any better from there,’ she explained.

More than 10,000 people who saw the clip were quick to offer their own opinions.

Some said they work ’60 plus hour working weeks’ and so don’t have time to make their ‘place not bad’.

Others confessed that they are the ‘type of client who cleans before the cleaner arrives’ as they are embarrassed.

‘I don’t want to be judged,’ one person said.

Some cleaners chimed in, saying they were ‘thankful’ that Kacie had ‘supported and validated this’.

Others asked what they could do beforehand to make cleaning their home easier.

Kacie replied to this, explaining: ‘I just think once the expectations are clear from both ends and the $$ are agreed to, there’s actually not a lot you need to worry about from there.

‘That’s always my biggest emphasis – clear expectations’.
