A cleaning guru on Instagram has shown a simple trick to keep trainers smelling fresh  – by using tea bags.

Lynsey Crombie, from the UK, who goes under the name of Lynsey Queen of Clean on Instagram, shared a picture, and the tip, showing her putting teabags into her shoes.

The guru, who regularly appears on This Morning with her hacks and has 146,000 followers on her social media page, shared the popular post on Tuesday and it’s had over 2000 likes.

The author, who has a book called How To Clean Your House: Easy tips and tricks to keep your home clean and tidy up your life, said that any tea bags can work for the trick and it doesn’t have to just be your standard English Breakfast.

Her fans loved the simple hack saying how clever it was and how they would be putting it into practice.

Next to the picture she added: ‘Pop a few tea bags inside your smelly shoes to fight off bad odours that are caused by heat and bacteria .

‘Leave to sit over night in a warm dry place. The longer you leave the better .

‘Any tea bags will work even the minty herbal ones. Tea bags are super absorbent and will suck the moisture and smell right out .

Revealing how tea bags are great for other cleaning tasks she said: ‘To save waste make sure you reuse the ones from your shoes for other household tasks. Tea bags actually have lots of uses from cleaning marks of windows and mirrors to fertilising your plants .’
