Feminist author Clementine Ford has unleashed on the grooms of Married At First Sight 2022, labelling one man as ‘creepy’ and another as ’emotionally shallow’.

The social critic, who is known for her best-selling books Fight Like a Girl and Boys Will Be Boys, shared her opinions in a lengthy Instagram Story video on Monday night as she sat down to watch the MAFS season premiere.

Her first target was groom Anthony Cincotta, who in his intro package claimed that he goes from ‘zero to 100’ in relationships.

Branding this statement as a ‘red flag’, Clementine said: ‘Someone who says to you, “I go from zero to 100 and I’m an old school romantic and I always lead and I always open the door and I always pay things”, that’s not actually telling you a lot about what they think about who you are.’

‘That tells you how they want to see themselves in a relationship. And for me, I always feel like those are huge red flags,’ she warned.

She also claimed that it was ‘weird and creepy’ that Anthony referred to his new bride Selin Mengu as his ‘best friend’ during his vows, despite never having met her before.

Clementine then turned her attention to groom Brent Vitiello, who branded his wife as ‘spoilt’ and a ‘psychopath’ after their car-crash wedding on Monday night.

Tamara had raised eyebrows by claiming she wouldn’t date someone who works in retail because it was ‘below her’, and that she deserved a man who was ambitious and successful.

Brent – who admitted he feared he wouldn’t be attracted to his new wife’s feet – later branded her as ‘spoiled’ and a ‘psychopath’.

While the show quickly presented Tamara as a ‘villain’, Clementine was quick to defend her.

‘I’m really excited for them to present Tamara as an unbearable she-demon because she has a modicum of standards for what she expects in a partner’, Clementine said.

‘And to favour… a man who not only didn’t wear socks to his own wedding, but is so emotionally shallow that the biggest thing he fears appears to be a woman having unattractive feet. I mean, he’ll still f**k her though,’ she added, rolling her eyes.

She continued to call out what she believes is a double standard between how fussy men and women are portrayed.

‘This is a kind of man, and they 100% expect women to look a certain way, to behave a certain way and to fulfil a certain checklist for them, in order for them to be attracted to them, and for them to feel like it’s worth pursuing a relationship,’ she said.

‘I’m not saying this as a huge defence for Tamara… but, I’m really sick of women with high standards on these shows being presented as somehow unreasonable, and irrational and entitled and spoiled, as Brent called her.’

‘Whereas men who express the same expectation of behaviour and performance and appearance, just as a basic rule… that’s fine. That’s never considered to be something untoward.’

Married At First Sight continues Tuesday at 7.30pm on Channel Nine and 9Now
