  • Ms Ford misspelt Ms Searle’s first name as ‘Brittney’, later claimed it was a joke

Feminist writer Clementine Ford has criticised a young woman who said she voted for the Liberal Party in the Federal Election.

Brittany Searle wrote an opinion piece for Mamamia explaining why she decided to vote for the Liberals at the polling booth.

In response, Ms Ford tweeted that the author should feel ‘ashamed about voting for anti-immigrant, anti-environment, anti-women, anti-queer f**kheads’.

Ms Ford incorrectly spelled Ms Searle’s first name as ‘Brittney’, although she later appeared to imply it was done on purpose.

‘I actually love that you misspelt her name,’ one person said, to which Ms Ford replied: ‘Who, Britnee’s?’

In her opinion piece, Ms Searle said there was an ‘epidemic’ of the ‘silent and undoubtedly shamed voter’.

Ms Searle wrote that the ‘idea of ”Liberal Shaming”’ is ‘the feeling that because I am educated, because I am married to an immigrant, because I don’t like Donald Trump, I’m expected to vote Labor’.

‘…many Liberal voters hide their feelings for fear they will be shouted down and looked at like we have joined a party of bigots we would NEVER join in a million years. As it turns out, I am not alone in that feeling,’ she wrote.

In response, Ms Ford tweeted that the author should feel 'ashamed about voting for anti-immigrant, anti-environment, anti-women, anti-queer f**kheads'

‘I have a son. I have a home. I have an investment property and I have a small business. In order to help anyone I need to make sure I can help myself and my family first. I need to make sure my son continues to have a house to live in before I fight for the planet he lives on. In order to do that I had to make the choice that kept those things safe. That was a vote for Liberal.’

Ms Ford quit her column for Nine Newspapers in February, saying she was cautioned over a tweet in which she called Prime Minister Scott Morrison a ‘f**king disgrace’.

The ‘pinned’ tweet on her Twitter account is critical of Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton, who Ms Ford claimed ‘presided over the deaths of innocent people held in offshore prisons, and he doesn’t care’.
