Los Angeles Clippers owner Steve Balmer revealed some his plans to give incentives for fan engagement once the team’s new arena set to open for next season.

The Clippers brand new Intuit Dome is set to open in August of 2024 and was also recently named the host of the 2026 NBA All-Star game.

Regardless of the NBA’s plans for 2026 however, Ballmer plans to give fans more reasons to stand up and cheer for the Clippers other than the basketball taking place on the court.

‘You get up, we’re gonna know you stood up… We know that you cheer,’ said Ballmer during a press conference that took place from the arena’s construction site.

‘We know how loudly you cheer. If you’re good on those things, we’ll give you little discounts around the shop.’

Being able to track not only which individual fans are cheering the loudest, but also which fans standup the most throughout the game certainly sounds like innovative if not mildly unsettling technology for a sports arena.

NBA commissioner Adam Silver also spoke glowingly about the amount of technology expected to be inside of the Intuit Dome once it opens.

‘There is technology [here] that is unmatched in any facility I’ve seen,’ Silver said.

‘I eagerly await the first opportunity to see a Clippers game in this fantastic Intuit Dome and of course, all NBA fans are eager to see an NBA All-Star game here.’

In terms of being named the host site for the All-Star game Ballmer said: ‘I was giddy when I heard it was possible and even giddier when the NBA said we were getting it.’

Silver also announced that the Intuit Dome is also set be the basketball venue for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
