Everyone loves a good day by the sea – even bears.
A family of four coastal brown bears were spotted having a day out by the water under blue skies, where the cubs played in the sea and climbed on their mother’s back.
The four bears soaked up the sun as they rested in the sand in Alaska’s Katmai National Park.
The young cubs followed behind their mother in almost perfect unison, sometimes stopping to check out the view or touch their mother’s back.
They were spotted in July by married couple Kate and Adam Rice, who managed to capture the fun as the bears took a stroll along the shore – and then a dip in the water.
The couple said: ‘The tide went out in the early afternoon as we made our way out to the beach in hopes of seeing bears clamming.
‘It didn’t take long to spot a mother bear with triplets working over the tidal flats a few hundred yards away. We noticed she was moving in our direction so we positioned ourselves so she may approach at a photographable distance.
‘Sitting on the tidal flat, the family moved closer and closer. With each step I could feel my heart race with anticipation. Awestruck of the scene unfolding in front of us we watched the family long after they had passed.’

One of the cubs appeared to be a bit more curious than his siblings and stopped to take in the view while resting a paw on another cub’s back
The little cub then walked around his mother and went up on his hind legs to apparently get his mother’s attention as they walked
