Cobra Kai season 5 trailer shows Daniel LaRusso teaming up with ex-Karate Kid rivals

On Tuesday, Netflix dropped the first full trailer for the action-packed fifth season of Cobra Kai, which premieres September 9.

In it, Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) teams up with his former Karate Kid rivals Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and Chozen Toguchi (Yuji Okumoto) to defeat Cobra Kai leader Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith).

The two-minute preview shows the Eagle Fang/Miyagi-Do squad surveying a map of the 15 Cobra Kai dojos dotting California’s San Fernando Valley as Daniel says: ‘Silver is dividing and conquering.’

‘Nothing hits harder than a comeback’: On Tuesday, Netflix dropped the first full trailer for the action-packed fifth season of Cobra Kai, which premieres September 9

‘Cobra Kai now has more students than ever before,’ Terry boasts.

‘That means, we’ll need more senseis. I’m thinking a lot bigger than just the Valley.’

Silver then greets his new senseis, who have just emerged on the tarmac from his private plane.

The wealthy Dynatox CEO hired his first-ever female sensei to lead one of the new franchises – Kim Da-Eun – played by Australian actress Alicia Hannah-Kim.

‘I need you to see which of my students are ready to take the next step,’ Terry instructs Kim.

After a disastrous short-lived stint as a ride-share driver, Johnny agrees to team up with Daniel and Chozen saying: ‘All we gotta do is get our hands dirty.’

And while the details of their revenge plan remain a mystery, Johnny and Chozen could be seen confronting a new platinum-blond Cobra Kai sensei: ‘We’re not here to take a lesson. We’re here to teach one.’

Lawrence made amends with his estranged son Robby Keene (Tanner Buchanan), but Robby can’t seem to get along with he and LaRusso’s favorite pupil Miguel Diaz (Xolo Maridueña).

At the end of the teaser, Silver’s Vietnam War buddy-turned-Cobra Kai co-founder John Kreese (Martin Kove) could be seen beating up his cell mates in prison.

‘I’m happy to hear that you’re doing well with the others,’ a prison staffer says.

‘Yeah, well, I make friends pretty easily. I find that a little kindness goes a long way,’ Paul replied.

Kreese landed behind bars after Terry betrayed him and framed him for assaulting Raymond ‘Stingray’ (Paul Walter Hauser) in the fourth season finale.

Noticeably missing from the new trailer was The Karate Kid Part III ‘bad boy’ Mike Barnes (Sean Kanan), who could wind up fighting for Cobra Kai just as easily as Eagle Fang/Miyagi-Do.

‘So excited to finally announce that Mike Barnes will be a part of season 5!’ 55-year-old Sean gushed on Instagram on August 9.

‘[Creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg] wrote me an awesome story. Can’t wait for you all to see it!’

Barnes was mentioned in the Cobra Kai episode ‘All Valley’ due to his unsportsmanlike behavior previously getting the dojo banned from participating in the All-Valley Karate Tournament.

Robyn Lively played Daniel’s KK3 love interest Jessica Andrews in John G. Avildsen’s dismally-reviewed 1989 three-quel, but she’s not been announced as part of the Cobra Kai cast.

Disgraced Oscar winner Will Smith has served as an executive producer on the critically-acclaimed Karate Kid spin-off since its origin as a YouTube Premium original series back in 2018.
