Cole Palmer’s iconic ‘cold’ celebration has sensationally crossed over into rugby with an England star recreating his pose after scoring at Twickenham on Saturday.
There isn’t much crossover between the two sports, but Palmer’s celebration appears to be an anomaly to the norm with the England international’s goalscoring celebration going viral.
Palmer became an instant hero at Stamford Bridge, scoring a stunning 27 goals in his debut season at the club after joining in a £42.5m deal from Man City, and has started this season with seven Premier League strikes in 10 matches.
The 22-year-old first performed his ‘cold’ celebration – that involved rubbing his arms and shoulders – in Chelsea 3-2 win against Luton Town in December last year with his pose becoming an instant hit.
Now, it has crossed over into rugby with England’s Chandler Cunningham-South recreating the signature pose after scoring the first of two tries in Saturday’s Autumn International Test against Australia.

Chandler-Smith gave England a deserving lead with two quick-fire tries against Australia
The Twickenham hosts took a convincing early lead in the contest against their rivals from Down Under with Cunningham-South opening the scoring with two quick-fire tries.
After scoring, the England and Harlequins flanker ran off to celebrate and recreated Palmer’s pose in doing so, rubbing his arms and sending fans of both sports wild.
England Rugby loved the moment as they posted Cunningham-South’s try on X alongside the caption: ‘Chandler Cunningham-South that is cold’ with a freezing emoji alongside.
Fans were also quick to draw comparison between the football and rugby stars, with one supporter posting online: ‘Loving the fact that Cunningham-South hit the ‘Cole Palmer’ celebration after his try. The celebration has officially landed in rugby.’
Palmer previously revealed his celebration was originally inspired by his former Man City academy teammate and now Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers.
Rogers had initially used the celebration but claimed Palmer now deservedly could claim it as his own after becoming one of the Premier League’s best players.
