Coldplay fans revealed as the most devoted followers as they are found to book car parking spaces near venues up to four months before the band is due to perform

  • Fans of Coldplay were securing spots 116 days before their concert

It’s hardly rock ‘n’ roll, but fans of the world’s top bands leave nothing to chance when attending their idols’ concerts.

So when the tickets have cost an arm and a leg, and picking up a band T-shirt can put a dent in a credit card, saving a few quid on parking is a sensible move.

Figures reveal that music-lovers attending shows by the likes of Bruce Springsteen and The Rolling Stones are booking private parking spaces around big venues as early as two and a half months in advance.

But the organisational skills of fans of these ageing acts are nothing compared to Coldplay devotees, who snaffle spaces up to four months before a gig.

The parking app JustPark, which lists 50,000 private parking spaces in residential driveways and has 13 million users, analysed data from some of Britain’s biggest gigs.

It found fans of Coldplay were securing spots 116 days before their concert at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff in June.

And when Bruce Springsteen played at Murrayfield in Edinburgh in May, fans of The Boss had booked spaces 78 days ahead.

Followers of The Rolling Stones also like to be organised, it seems, and when the wrinkly rockers performed at Anfield in Liverpool in June 2022, ticket-holders had secured spaces 22 days ahead, while Guns N’ Roses followers booked 32 days in advance when they played in London in July 2022.

Parking at stadiums comes at a premium, but booking a private driveway meant fans paid an average of just £15.

Other fans who planned well ahead include Harry Styles devotees (or perhaps their mums and dads), who were scouring the parking app for spaces 71 days ahead of his appearance in Cardiff at the Principality Stadium in June.

Researchers found that owners of driveways in prime locations can make £7,000 a year from renting out spaces.
