On Saturday night, Coldplay will become the first act to headline Glastonbury five times, breaking their tie with The Cure.
Coldplay made their Glastonbury debut in the New Bands Tent in 1999, before headlining in 2002, 2005, 2011, and 2016.
But this news will come as no surprise to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin who predicted the band’s astronomical success the year before they had even released their first album.
On June 26, 1998, a then-22-year-old Chris stood in the field of UCL’s Wye Farming College during his end-of-year ball and declared what the future of Coldplay, then just a year old, would be.
He said: ‘Jon Buckland, Chris Martin, Will Champion and Guy Berryman Act of the Coldplay. They’re going to go on to be such a huge band. This will be on national television within four years. Four years.

‘By 26 June, 2002, Coldplay, the band, or whatever they’re called then will be known, just all over man. We’re going to be so big.’
He finished: ‘Guy, Will, John and Chris. Don’t you forget. Massive, absolutely huge.’
The next year they performed at Glastonbury for the first time. They headlined for the first time just three years after that.
Each of the members Chris named stayed on to see the band’s success, and they added manager Phil Harvey along the way.
Coldplay will begin their record-breaking set on the Pyramid Stage at 9.45 pm.
The Sun revealed ahead of Saturday that one of multiple surprise acts for this year’s Glastonbury will be British rock band Kasabian.
Ten years after Serge Pizzorno and the group last took to the stages at Worthy Farm, insiders have confirmed that they are booked to play.
A source told the publication: ‘Glastonbury is always a big deal but this year Kasabian really can’t wait, especially as it’s a decade since they were last there.

‘They loved the idea of being a secret act and jumped at the idea when it was suggested by Glasto boss Emily Eavis.
The set will be an hour long.
In the past at Glastonbury surprise acts have included The Killers, Radiohead and the Foo Fighters.
A second surprise performer for this year’s Glastonbury was revealed to be folk singer-songwriter Beans On Toast.
Glastonbury began on Wednesday and ends on Sunday.
Headlining this year’s festival are Coldplay on Saturday night, SZA on Sunday night, and Dua Lipa who performed on Friday night.
Shania Twain, 58, will play on Sunday in the late afternoon, and she opened up about how she is preparing.
Coldplay will take to the famed Pyramid Stage at 9:45 pm. Glastonbury ends on Sunday.
