COLES pre-packed meat causes horror for vegetarian mother after she found a whole chicken HEAD

A vegetarian mum is traumatised after she found a whole chicken head ‘frozen in a silent scream,’ at her local supermarket.

Bonnie Aungle, 33, from Ocean Shores, New South Wales, purchased chicken necks for her pet chihuahua at a Coles supermarket near Murwillumbah, last Sunday.

The normal task was met with a gruesome discovery when she got home and opened the packaging – to find a whole chicken head.

Aungle, who was horrified by her finding, had to act swiftly to ensure her three-year-old vegetarian son, Phoenix, wouldn’t see the intact decapitated chicken head.

Aungle spoke about her terrifying experience, acknowledging that she didn’t see the head right away as it was at the bottom of the packet.

‘I thought I could see the hint of a comb. And I just thought “oh god that’s not a chicken head is it?”‘ she said.

The grim discovery made the vegetarian feel sad as she said the dead eye looked at her.

‘It was surreal. Then I saw its beak and eyes all still intact. It was almost stuck in this frozen silent scream,’ she said.

Her son, who is vegetarian by choice, ran over to see what had happened when Aungle gasped in shock. Luckily, she hid the evidence in time.

Aungle knows the reality of what happens to animals and where meat comes from, but seeing it up-close in person is a different and upsetting experience.

‘But to have it right there in your face especially when I don’t eat meat is very confronting,’ she said.

Aungle normally buys her chicken necks at the local butcher and has vowed that she won’t return to Coles for the meat, following the incident.

She said she still has the chicken head in her fridge and is unsure what to do with it.

Coles have confirmed that they are investigating the incident, communicating with the suppliers.

‘Coles takes the quality of all our products seriously. We have contacted the customer and will follow up with our supplier to investigate the matter,’ a Coles spokesperson said.
