Colin From Accounts star Emma Harvie reveals how her role on the hit comedy show changed her life: ‘I didn’t really think I could be an actor’

Emma Harvie has revealed how her role on Colin From Accounts completely changed her life.

The actress portrays Megan, or ‘Meggles’, on the smash hit comedy series, but admitted she didn’t used to think she would be able to launch a career in TV.

Emma, who is of Sri Lankan heritage, said she never saw anyone who looked like herself on TV when she was growing up and didn’t think she would ‘fit’ into the industry.

‘I didn’t really think I could be an actor and make money from it – especially in Australia,’ she told the Daily Telegraph.

‘There was no one on TV that looked like me, I didn’t think that was a place I would fit into, but it kind of worked out.’

Emma told how representation still makes an impact on her as she praised the casting of Ambika Mod as lead Emma Morley in Netflix’s hit series One Day.

Emma said it was the first time she had seen a South Asian actress as a romantic lead where her ethnicity was irrelevant to the story as she detailed its huge impact on her.

‘It meant something to me to see someone that looks like me doing that,’ she candidly shared.

‘It’s so vital that you can actually physically see someone that looks like you doing that – otherwise, you just don’t know that it’s an option.’
