Colin Jost reveals how he ‘snuck in’ nuptials to Scarlett Johannson amid Covid restrictions

Colin Jost has revealed he felt ‘lucky’ to be able to marry his wife Scarlett Johannson amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The Saturday Night Live star, 38, tied the knot with the actress, 36, in a private ceremony in October, a year after getting engaged.

The comedian discussed the nuptials during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and said the couple were joined by their families for the special day.

He said: ‘We snuck it in. We felt lucky that we were able to get a wedding and have our family’s there and be able to do it safely. It was nice, we felt like we got away with it.’

Colin told how his SNL co-star and close friend Michael Che was also in attendance and has bought a secret wedding present for the couple.

The actor said: ‘He was well-behaved so for the whole time I was just waiting for the other shoe to drop.

‘The other day, he came up to me in the hallway and was like, “I got you something.” I was like, “what do you mean?”

‘”A wedding present, I’ll bring it by sometime.” I’m waiting to find out what this thing is but we’re both pretty concerned about our well being.’

It comes after Colin told how he thinks navigating the coronavirus pandemic is a ‘very good sign’ his marriage is strong.

‘It seems like a good one,’ he told Entertainment Tonight when asked what his marriage is like. The comedian added, ‘If you can make it through this situation, it seems like a very good sign.’

The comic admitted he didn’t get heavily involved in planning his nuptials to the Black Widow actress because he knows she has ‘better taste’ than he does.

He said: ‘I don’t pretend to know much about things or have taste in things.

‘I’m very happy to rely on someone who has a lot better taste and knowledge of things. That’s sort of what I’ve learned in general in my life. I’ve never been like, “Oh, should I wear this shirt?” …I never know, so I always would rather someone else tell me.’

And Colin was more focused on their marriage than the wedding itself, insisting choosing his bride was a ‘way bigger decision’ than the details of their celebration.

He said: ‘I was much happier about getting [that] right than any of the other.

‘I never grew up imagining my dream wedding, like, this is what I want. I imagined my dream partner rather than my dream wedding. There’s a lot of details to it that I just didn’t even consider.’

After they tied the knot in an intimate ceremony last fall, the couple found a heartfelt way to tell the world they were ‘Jost married.’

Rather than break the news through their representatives or giving it to one media outlet, the news was announced on social media by the food charity Meals On Wheels America, giving it worldwide attention during the pandemic.

‘Scarlett wanted to figure out a way of doing something that had another kind of meaning or could potentially help in some way,’ Colin told The Associated Press.

They wanted to make a difference with their happy news.

‘We talked about places that we would love to help, and Meals On Wheels was at the top of our list, just getting very basic food to people that need it seems like the most basic way to help,’ he said.

News of the wedding was shared on the Instagram account for Meals On Wheels America. ‘We’re thrilled to break the news that Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost were married over the weekend in an intimate ceremony with their immediate family and love ones,’ the note said.

It was added the couple was following COVID-19 safety precautions as directed by the CDC. ‘Their wedding wish is to help make a difference for vulnerable older adults during this difficult time by supporting @mealsonwheelsamerica,’ it was added. ‘Please consider donating to celebrate the happy couple by clicking the link in our bio.’

The site added that the two said ‘I do’ at her historic four-bedroom home located in the New York suburbs which she purchased for $4M in 2018.

‘They only planned the wedding for a few weeks,’ a source told the site. ‘Just close friends and family attended.’

It was added: ‘They wanted a quiet, private ceremony with their close friends and family, and they pulled it off.’

The two started dating in 2017 and then became engaged in May 2019 when he presented her with an 11-carat engagement ring.
