Collins Laneway Rose Bay: You won’t believe what this laneway looks like now

A once dull and easy-to-miss laneway has undergone a dramatic transformation by a Sydney council.

Collins Laneway in Rose Bay originally looked tiresome but now offers an epic holiday feel with colourful walls, patterned tile floor, outdoor seating and lights dangling between the two buildings,

Visitors will feel as if they’ve been instantly transported to the Mediterranean and can enjoy a coffee or meal at one of the cafes.

The hidden pathway situated between a main road and residential street is only a short walk away from the beach.

The laneway also features the beautiful artwork by artist Alice McAuliffe, which is reminiscent of renaissance styles of Italy. 

Adrian Widjy, who runs the ‘Places in Sydney’ Instagram page, posted a video and highly recommended visiting the space. 

‘You must check this out! This new spot will transport you to a Mediterranean holiday,’ he said in the clip. 

‘They have cafes and hang out spots for you to soak in the beautiful façade. 

‘Parallel to this you can find Percival Lane which has direct beach access.’

The video has since been viewed more than 41,000 times and hundreds thanked Adrian for sharing the secret location.  

‘How unique!’ one wrote, another said: ‘Wow I live so close and yet didn’t know about it.’ 

‘Would never have found this on my own,’ a third added.  

The stunning upgrade was commissioned by Woollahra Council and made possible due to funding from the New South Wales Government’s Streets as Shared Spaces program, which supports the improvement of local streets, paths and public areas across Sydney. 

The laneway is located between Collins Avenue and New South Head Road.
