Colombian leader accidentally drops trouser during speech after his significant weight loss

This is the moment a mayor’s pants fell down while he was giving a speech in Colombia.

Jorge Chams, who has recently lost weight, was addressing attendees at an event to commemorate the anniversary of a learning center in the city of Sabanalarga on Tuesday when the blooper was caught on camera.

Chams could be seen grabbing on to the lectern with his right hand while reaching down with his left to grab the pants.

A woman standing near him approached to help him readjust the pants as he laughed at his own blooper.

Meanwhile, several priests giggle in the background while another gave him a warm hand after the event’s emcee said, ‘An applause there for the mayor, an applause.’

Chams then whispered to the woman and as they tried to tuck his dress shirt in to ensure that the trousers would not fall from his waistline again.

‘This will go down in history,’ he joked. ‘Today I have shed eight kilos.’

Local outlets reported that he joined a weight loss program in recent months. The eight kilos amounts to about 17 pounds.

Chams previously served as mayor from 2016 to 2019 and beat out three rivals in the October 2023 elections to become mayor once again.

He came under scrutiny in December 2018 when the Attorney General’s Office alleged his office had committed irregularities with a $300,0000 public works contract that had been.

The contractor that was awarded the contract never fulfilled the agreement by paving one of the city roads, the prosecutor’s office found.

The Chams administration also failed to confront the contractor and did not impose any sanctions or fines, as is required under law.
