Colorado cops catch crooks with ‘Family Feud’ parody game

Police in southwestern Colorado are using the premise of the popular game show ‘Family Feud’ to catch criminals.

The Durango Police Department’s Facebook page allows the community to play ‘Fugitive Feud,’ which lists the top suspects and their identifying information in the same format of the classic television show.

Cindi Taylor, the officer who created the section, tells The Durango Herald the game is a new take on the weekly wanted posters released by the department.

‘I wanted to create something that would capture the community’s attention more than the wanted poster,’ Taylor said.

She adds that community involvement is often crucial to capturing fugitives.

‘We hope that we can work with the community and that they will call in some of the fugitives because our officers are often busy on calls and cannot dedicate a great deal of time looking for these fugitives,’ Taylor said.

The game is also a way to expand the department’s social media presence, seeing it as an important tool to help clean up the streets of Colorado.

‘With our community’s involvement on our social media this past year, they have helped us solve crimes, find criminals and missing and endangered people,’ she said. ‘We also get necessary feedback from our community.’

Taylor said that two missing person cases were solved last year due to online assistance, with vigilant citizens passing along tips that eventually led detectives to solve each case.

‘The detectives used that information, and they were able to locate those people, who were safe in both instances,’ Taylor said.

The department plans to continue posting weekly wanted posters, and well as monthly episodes of ‘Fugitive Feud.’
