Comedian Cal Wilson to be featured in upcoming season of The Great Australian Bake Off – filmed shortly before her death

Late Australian comedian Cal Wilson will be featured as host in the upcoming series of The Great Australian Bake Off, which was filmed shortly before her death.

Wilson, who died in October after a long battle with an aggressive form of cancer, filmed episodes of the Foxtel show before her passing, set to air next month.

‘Season Seven holds a special place in all our hearts. Cal’s passing was a devastating shock to the Bake Off family,’ said Foxtel senior staffer Wendy Moore.

‘She is dearly missed by everyone who knew her. Her deep love for this show and her unique blend of charisma and kindness brightened the shed every day.’

Moore added Foxtel had the ‘full support’ of Wilson’s family to ensure her terrific final series of Bake Off was aired.

It is set to premiere on Wednesday, August 18, on both Foxtel and Binge.

Cal will return as host on the gripping competitive cooking series, alongside British culinary expert Rachel Khoo and renowned Aussie chef Darren Purchese.

Sadly, Wilson only filmed four episodes before her passing so comedian Natalie Tran will take over hosting duties for the rest of the series.

‘This season is a tribute to her memory, the incredible talent of our bakers, and the genuine camaraderie that makes the show so special,’ Tran said in a statement.

New Zealand-born Wilson died on October 11 from a rare and aggressive cancer, just four weeks after taking herself to hospital with worrying lower back pain.

The Melbourne-based stand up comedian is survived by her husband Chris Woods and 14-year-old son Digby.

Wilson was filming The Great Australian Bake Off for Foxtel in Sydney in September when she began to feel ill.

When she began to feel sick she checked herself into hospital, her management told Daily Mail Australia.

They confirmed she had suffered a rare form of cancer but declined to discuss her symptoms.
