Comedian Matt Okine reveals what NOT to buy this Christmas

Ah that feeling of disappointment when you unwrap a Christmas present and realise it’s not exactly what you were hoping for.

We’ve all been there.

And for Comedian Matt Okine that feeling happened two years on the trot as a youngster – when his dentist father repeatedly gave him an oral hygiene kit in his stocking.

Gifting: Matt Okine is teaming up with PayPal to encourage Australia to be better gift givers. He once received an oral hygiene kit from his dad for Christmas

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia, Matt says: ‘I guess the main thing about the kit would be a tongue scraper and a bottle of mouthwash. When you’re a kid waiting under the Christmas tree – it’s not really what I was expecting.’

But like many people across Australia he concedes that he hasn’t been the best gift giver at times.

‘There was one Christmas and I left it to the last minute. I went to the convenience store and bought my dad some superglue.’

‘I don’t know what the thought process was there. I suppose I thought that my dad likes fixing things, then again I was probably the one breaking everything.’

But this year Matt is determined to do better and he will be heading to Bondi Markets to look for perfect and unique gifts for his family and friends.

‘It’s been a while since I’ve been to Bondi markets so I’m excited to see what is there.’

Matt’s trip is being live streamed to Facebook by PayPal, highlighting the payment system’s Shop Off The Beaten Path portal.

The portal  allows those who may not have access to markets, such as Bondi, the opportunity to purchase unique gifts for their loves ones from a wide selection of Aussie businesses

‘PayPal’s Shop Off The Beaten Path portal is exciting to me because it means anyone, no matter where they are can access amazing presents for their loved ones,’ Matt explains.

And in his commitment to being a better giver Matt reveals he’s already been taking notes on what to buy for his friends and family this year.

‘The key to giving great gifts is to really listen to those around you. I’ve been making lists from what people have said all year. Just because my girlfriend mentions something in July, doesn’t mean it’s not relevant in December.’

‘I normally fall into that category of buying practical gifts for everyone, a lot of electrical goods, but I think it’s all about getting unique and personal presents.’

‘We should all be like Siri and listen all year round to what our friends and family really want. I want to get my girlfriend something she actually likes this year.’

‘I’m excited to be heading to Bondi to see what different designs and products are available, I just think it’s going to be really fun,’ he says.

Matt will be live on PayPal’s Facebook page on 3rd December shopping for unique gifts for his friends and family – so make sure you tune in.
