Commanders’ Brian Robinson returns to team facilities after being released from the hospital

Washington Commanders’ Brian Robinson returns to team facilities after being released from the hospital following surgery on two gunshot wounds he suffered during a botched car jacking two days ago

  • The Commanders captured the moment coaches saw ‘B-Rob’ back from hospital
  • An investigation into the attempted robbery that caused the injuries is ongoing
  • Robinson could make a return to the field sometime this year, as he rehabs

Brian Robinson not only survived a frightening encounter, but has returned to the delight of his teammates.

The rookie running back out of Alabama showed up at the Commanders’ practice facilities on Tuesday after being released from the hospital that day.

He was greeted by teammates and coaches, even remembering to fulfill a rookie chore of bringing snacks for the RB room.

Robinson met with Washington team doctors at the team facility on Tuesday to determine his next steps, as far as rehabilitation.

There remains hope he could return this season despite being shot in the leg and hip on Sunday, when two armed suspects – likely teenagers – tried to steal his car as he was leaving a seafood restaurant. Robinson reportedly wrestled a gun away from one carjacker but was shot in the lower leg and hip by the second.

Robinson suffered ‘a couple gunshot wounds to his lower extremities,’ according Metro Police communications director Dustin Sternbeck.

Police have identified a pair of potential suspects and have also recovered one gun and the stolen vehicle the pair had been driving.

On Instagram, Robinson revealed that ‘surgery went well,’ and Commanders head coach Ron Rivera echoed that report to assembled media on Monday.

‘He’s very fortunate,’ Rivera said. ‘He’s doing well. It will be a matter of time before he’s back out here. There’s no timeline, but everything was very positive.

‘It’s just about the healing process, and once he’s well enough to get on the field, doctors have to clear him and we’ll go from there. Everything is positive so far.’

The third-round pick remains out indefinitely, complicating the Commanders’ backfield situation. Veterans Antonio Gibson and JD McKissic remain on the team, but Robinson was expected to contribute as part of a committee.
