A commuter stuck on a slow train that could not go any faster than 10 miles an hour without the brakes slamming on shared a video of his low-speed drama on Twitter – joking that he was in a ‘British comical parody’ of Hollywood movie Spped.

James Storer went online on Tuesday to share a video of his less-than-thrilling view from the window seat of Northern Rail train.

He left Liverpool Lime Street at 8.29am and expected to arrive at his destination, Manchester Deansgate at 9.23am.

James Storer took to Twitter on Tuesday to share a video of his view from the window seat of Northern Rail train from Liverpool Lime Street to Manchester Deansgate while jokingly drawing comparisons to the 1994 hit movie Speed starring Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock

But after leaving Whiston, the sixth stop of the journey, the train repeatedly halted.

Passengers were told it was due to a ‘brake fault’ and that the train was restricted to 10mph.

Mr Storer took to his Twitter to capture the slow moving carriage, while jokingly drawing comparisons to the 1994 hit movie Speed starring Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock.

He wrote: ‘Currently part of a British comical parody of #Speed on #northernrail’.

In the film Sandra Bullock must drive a bus above 50mph otherwise the bomb on board will be detonated.

On board the bus is Reeves, who plays Jack Traven an LAPD officer, who must defuse the bomb.

A spokesman told BBC: ‘The 08:29 service from Liverpool Lime St to Crewe developed a fault with its brakes after leaving Whiston station.

‘The train’s speed was severely restricted as a result of the fault and arrived at Earlestown station shortly after 10:05, where it subsequently terminated.’
