Cesc Fabregas congratulated Matthijs de Ligt after the Ajax defender became the youngest captain in a Champions League semi-final.

De Ligt starred in Ajax’s 1-0 away win in the first leg of their last four game against Tottenham on Tuesday night.

At 19 years and 261 days, he became the youngest captain to play in a Champions League semi-final.

De Ligt has been touted for a move in the summer with Manchester United, Juventus and Barcelona interested in signing him. 

Former Barcelona midfielder, Fabregas, who would no doubt want him at the Nou Camp, praised the youngster on Twitter. He tweeted: ‘Congratulations big boy.’ 

Meanwhile, the son of icon Paul Scholes has urged De Ligt to join Barcelona because the Old Trafford club are ‘w***’ and have a ‘team full of b***ends’.

Scholes’s son Arron, 19, tweeted: ‘As much as I’d love to see De Ligt at United, I wouldn’t even wish that on him,’ he said.

‘Go to Barca and enjoy your career mate because we’re w*** and have a team full of b***ends.’
