Locals have voiced their frustration over why the trees were filled with concrete in the first place
Locals, however, have voiced their frustration over why the trees were filled with concrete in the first place.
‘How do they think the trees will get water? And how do they think the trees will grow with the concrete hard up against them like that? What were they thinking?… it just doesn’t make sense,’ one woman who lives in the area complained on social media.
Growing tree roots had made the footpath uneven and the contractors were supposed to level the area with concrete while maintaining the health of the trees, Christchurch City Council city streets maintenance manager Mark Pinner told Stuff.
The concrete will be removed and replaced with crusher dust to level the footpath, but still allow the tree to grow and water to get to the tree roots.
