A home cook has transformed her simple instant noodles into a comforting bowl of ramen after adding Japanese mayonnaise and an egg.

Ayeh Far, from Sydney, recreated the dish after she stumbled across the viral ‘Kewpie mayo ramen hack’ on TikTok.

To make the dish, all you’ll need is a packet of instant Shin Ramyun or any other brand you prefer, an egg, Kewpie mayo, finely grated garlic and diced spring onions.

The mayo and egg offers a silky, rich and creamy broth while the garlic gives a great depth of flavour.

What you’ll need to make a Kewpie mayo ramen

Instant ramen

1 egg

Kewpie mayo

1 clove of garlic, finely grated

Spring onions, diced

‘Take your plain ramen to another level. I absolutely love ramen. It’s not something I eat often but as I always say, balanced eating is the key for me. I saw this hack and I had to try it,’ she said.

‘To make this, you can add Kewpie mayo as much as you like or extra chili if you like it spicy – but these were already too spicy for me.’

Ayeh, otherwise known as Cooking with Ayeh on social media, started by bringing a pot of water to boil, before adding in the instant noodles.

In a serving bowl, she mixed the raw egg, Kewpie mayo, garlic, seasoning packets from the noodles, and spring onions until well combined.

She then poured some of the hot water from the noodle cooking water into the same bowl with the mayo egg mixture.

‘Adding some of the cooking water to the mixture cooks down the egg a little, similar to how a carbonara is made. Don’t worry it doesn’t taste eggy,’ she said.

Once the noodles are cooked to al dente, she poured the noodles and the rest of the water into the serving bowl, and combined together to create a broth.

The residual heat from the hot noodles and cooking water will cook the egg.

Her video has since been viewed more than 1.3million times, with many who tried the noodle hack saying it was ‘delicious’ and ‘amazing’.

While others said they couldn’t wait to give the recipe a go, with some even labelling the dish as ‘carbonara ramen’ because they both have a similar method of combining hot noodles with raw egg.

‘Discovering Kewpie mayo has taken all my recipes to the next level but I’ve never thought to use it in a combo like this. Definitely going to try it because this looks so good,’ one wrote.

While another added: ‘Gotta try this! For some reason the mayo mixed with egg kinda makes my queasy, but I also know it’ll taste good.’

The Kewpie mayo noodle hack has been doing the rounds on TikTok in recent months after the dish went viral in Japan.
