Coorparoo: Stranger pours hot liquid over baby in Brisbane park

A nine-month-old baby has undergone surgery after a stranger poured a scalding hot drink on him.

The baby was with his family enjoying a picnic at Hanlon Park in Coorparoo in Brisbane’s south when an unknown man approached the group at about midday on Tuesday.

The stranger poured a hot liquid believed to be coffee onto the baby before fleeing the scene.

The infant was rushed to the Queensland Children’s Hospital with burns to his chest and face.

He underwent surgery on Tuesday night to determine how serious the burns were.

His injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.

The baby’s family told Nine News that they’re traumatised and heartbroken. They also want the man responsible found. 

Officers from the Child Protection and Investigation Unit have launched an investigation and are examining CCTV from the park.

The man remains on the run early Wednesday.
