A witness said the boy was fatally shot by his 10-year-old brother, according to Syracuse.com.

Neighbor, Frederick Powers Sr, said he was sitting with the victim’s father in the front yard around 2.30am when they heard the gunshot inside the home.

Powers told the news site that the boy’s mother ran out of the house calling for help.

He said he ran into the house and saw that the child had been shot. Powers said Shaleek was shot by another child inside the house.

‘He always hung out with my son. He was a great kid. He was loveable, he had respect,’ Powers told TWC News.

If charges are filed against the 10-year-old, his case will be handled in family court.

Syracuse police are still investigating the shooting, but the gun used was possessed illegally.

Authorities recovered the weapon, but no other details have been released yet.
