The police were heard negotiating with at least one person inside the property, the Geelong Advertiser reported.

Locals who gathered close to the scene of the standoff have been told to stay behind a fence.

The SOG unit gets involved where there are dangerous suspects and critical incidents such as sieges, hostage situations and armed offenders.

The Victorian ambulance service is on standby if it is needed at the house, but has not yet treated anyone at the scene, which is close to a Baptist church.
