Fans watching Thursday’s episode of Coronation Street were left reeling after vicar Billy Mayhew was stabbed in the leg – and was forced into a shocking confession.
The vicar was knifed in a random attack outside of the court after pal Peter Barlow defended him as a ‘good man’ during his assault trial.
Billy had been given a metal gift of a four leaf clover by his adopted daughter Summer, which had sliced into his limb when he had been kicked by the thug.
The end is nigh? Fans watching Thursday’s episode of Coronation Street were left reeling after vicar Billy Mayhew was stabbed in the leg – and was forced into a shocking confession to Peter Barlow
With the realisation he could be bleeding to death, the vicar told a shocked Peter: ‘Tell Todd and Summer that I love them.’
The injury triggers a confession out of Billy that he was the man who killed Peter’s twin sister Susan.
With his state declining, Billy seems to accept his fate and mutters that God had given him what he deserves.
As the bleeding got heavier, Billy gravely told Peter that he had drove off after smashing into Susan on the motorway back in 2001.
Running out of energy, he added: ‘I tried to atone, I’ve tried so hard but it’s not enough, it was never enough.’
A stunned Peter almost released the pressure on Billy’s wound but decided against it – just as the ambulance arrived.

One Twitter user wrote: ‘Wondering why Peter didn’t just drive to the hospital instead of letting Billy bleed to death… if he dies that is… but still WTF?!’
Another excited user wrote: ‘Oh my God, I am so excited and scared, this is literally the best storyline on Coronation Street’.
Bemused: Despite the tense scenes, most viewers were baffled as to why Peter called an ambulance – but didn’t drive Billy to hospital

Another asked: ‘Could a small metal charm digging into your leg really cause you to almost die within minutes?’
