Coronation Street fans blast ‘unrealistic’ kidnapping plot as they spot major blunder when Toyah is taken hostage by woman from Spider’s past
Coronation Street fans blasted Toyah Battersby’s kidnapping storyline as ‘unrealistic’ as they spotted a major blunder when she was taken hostage on Friday night’s show.
During the hour-long episode, a mystery woman impersonating Spider Nugent’s wife turned up at Toyah’s flat.
The brunette named Layla calmly told Toyah (Georgia Taylor) the pair needed to speak and Leanne, who was also at home but distracted looking for keys, let her in and left.
Later in the episode, Leanne spoke to Spider (Martin Hancock) at the shops who told her that his actual wife isn’t in the country but in America.
Panicked, Spider then phoned Toyah to tell her that the woman sat in the flat was pretending to be his wife.
Drama: Coronation Street fans blasted Toyah Battersby’s kidnapping storyline as ‘unrealistic’ as they spotted a major blunder when she was taken hostage on Friday night’s show
Plot hole: Fans, however, were not convinced as to how Layla could single handedly knock Toyah unconscious, drag her out of the flat and through the street unnoticed
Whilst Toyah tried to keep her cool, her terrified face gave her panic away which Layla then clocked.
As Leanne and Spider arrived at the flat they found blood on the floor, but Toyah was nowhere to be found.
Fans, however, were quick to tear into the plot as they were not convinced as to how Layla could single handedly knock Toyah unconscious, drag her out of the flat and through the street and bundle her into the back of a van unnoticed.
‘So Layla on Coronation Street has managed to kidnap Toyah, bound and gagged her and bundled her into a van all on her own’ said one viewer on Twitter.
‘Are we supposed to be caught up in suspense due to Toyah’s kidnap because I’m not’ another said.
A third agreed saying: ‘Am I able to ask how on earth did that woman kidnap Toyah?
‘She got her out of the flat and into the van without being seen. Give us a break and at least offer a crumb of something feasible.’
It’s a mystery: An unknown woman turned up claiming to be Spider’s wife
Shocking: The brunette was let in by Leanne asked to speak to Toyah
Say what: Leanne is told the Spider’s wife is in America so the mystery woman was actually an imposter
Nowhere to be seen: Spider and Leanne frantically search for Toyah but come back to a broken coffee cup and blood on the floor
Not convinced: ‘So Layla on Coronation Street has managed to kidnap Toyah, bound and gagged her and bundled her into a van all on her own’ said one viewer on Twitter
Fan reaction: Some viewers took to Twitter to vent their frustration on Toyah’s ‘shock’ kidnap claiming it to be dumb, unfeasible and saying it had no suspense
A fourth chimed in ‘This kidnap nonsense is ridiculous’.
Despite their grumblings, Toyah’s dramatic hostage was heightened further when she was later seen tied up and gagged in the back of a van with Layla sat in the driver’s seat.
Also in Friday night’s episode, Lauren visited her dad in prison for the first time, whilst Kirk and Beth admitted they missed each other.
Sarah was also horrified when her pregnancy news was revealed by Daniel who arrived late to family drinks in the Rovers and raised a toast to the ‘new Barlow baby!’.
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
