‘This episode has ruined me!’ Corrie is rocked by one of its saddest EVER deaths as viewers are left in tears by ‘heartbreaking’ farewell
Coronation Street was hit by one of its saddest ever deaths on Wednesday night, as viewers said goodbye to Evelyn’s beloved dog Cerberus.
Fans were left in tears by the emotional scenes as Evelyn decided to have her pet put to sleep after he suffered a drastic decline in health.
While Corrie is no stranger to unexpected tragedies, this death hit many fans harder than most, as they took to Twitter to admit they could relate to the loss of such a beloved family member.
Many also praised Maureen Lipman’s performance as Evelyn in the devastating scenes, as she bid farewell to her ‘best boy’ while the vet put him to sleep.
And Evelyn’s upset was made worse by the fact that she learned from friend Roy Cropper that Cerberus had accidentally eaten an Eccles cake, which may have led to his drastic health decline.
Devastating: Coronation Street was hit by one of its saddest ever deaths on Wednesday night, as viewers said goodbye to Evelyn’s beloved dog Cerberus
In the episode, Evelyn feared for her elderly dog’s health when he refused to move from the sofa and was off his food.
Taking her pet to the vet’s, she learned he would undergo further tests and would have to wait to hear the results.
Ahead of finding out Cerberus results, Evelyn was furious when Roy admitted he accidentally dropped an Eccles cake in the cafe, which the dog may have eaten.
Eccles cakes contain raisins, which are poisonous to dogs, and Evelyn was devastated when she learned her lifelong companion was suffering from kidney failure.
While the vet said there were treatment, given Cerberus’ age, the kindest thing to do would be to put him to sleep.
Evelyn and her grandson Tyrone were given some time to say goodbye to Cerberus, and he peacefully passed away by his owner’s side.
Stroking her pet, Evelyn told him: ‘Just sleep my little angel,’ as she stroked him and thanked him for his unconditional companionship.
The heartbreaking death sparked a flurry of reaction from fans, who admitted they could relate to the loss of a beloved family pet.
