An Australian actress called Hannah Ellis is going to be taking on the role.

MailOnline has contacted a spokesperson for Coronation Street for comment.

In emotional scenes, Liz can be seen looking mournful as she takes a large bunch of flowers to Katie’s grave before bumping into Jim.

Katie was born prematurely in 1992 and placed in an incubator and was believed to have passed away.

But according to The Sun, there was a mix-up at the hospital and Katie was indeed alive and adopted by a couple who moved to Australia and renamed Hannah.

They report: ‘When she turned 18 she tracked down her real father Jim via his military records.’

The couple are also parents to twins Steve and Andy, (although only Steve, played by Simon Gregson, remains in the soap.)

The show’s producer Kate Oates told Metro: ‘We have some amazing stuff with Jim McDonald.

‘He’s going to be coming back with a lot of resentment because of what Steve did – from his point of view, he has been rotting in prison and no-one cares.’

On Thursday, Kate Ford shared a picture of herself and Hannah.

She wrote: ‘So pleased to be filming with the new girl on the block @HannahEllisRyan welcome! Playing Hannah!’
