Coronation Street star secretly marries girlfriend just weeks after quitting the soap

Coronation Street’s Ciaran Griffiths has secretly married his girlfriend just weeks after quitting the soap.

The actor, 41, who played Damon Hay, has now shared photos after tying-the-knot in front of the Sydney Opera House in Australia.

He decided to leave the cobbles after two years in the role and has now moved Down Under to be with his wife and son.

Ciaran wore a pale blue blazer with a white shirt and navy trousers in the photo whilst his stunning wife opted for a lace wedding gown.

The soapstar met his wife when touring in a theatre production in Australia in 2019, he briefly moved back to the UK to reprise his role as Damon in January.

Speaking about his temporary move back to Manchester, he said at the time: ‘It was hard the first time, but my son is a bit older now, he understands a bit more so I don’t feel as guilty leaving him, even though I’m doing it for them anyway.

‘But the weather’s terrible, I’m never ill in Australia, yet I get here and straight away I’ve got a cold!’

It was reported that his final scenes had already aired, unbeknown to fans, at the end of March.

The Sun revealed that Ciaran’s scenes on March 22 marked his final moments in Weatherfield as he is set not to return.

In the dramatic scenes viewers saw Damon as he was arrested for armed robbery after being blackmailed into it by brother Harvey Gaskell.

While he had the option to turn on Harvey (Will Mellor) and remain free to live with his girlfriend Sarah Platt, instead he chose to plead guilty and accept the years in prison with Harvey as he knew the pair would never be safe.

The brothers had a brutal fight and then reunited with plans to relaunch their criminal empire from behind bars.

And during Friday’s episode, Damon summoned Sarah (Tina O’Brien) to the prison where he then broke up with her.

As Sarah promised she would wait for him and that they could have a future together, Damon dropped a bombshell as he ended the relationship.

He confessed: ‘I don’t want you to do that because I asked you here to tell you to your face, we’re finished.

‘I’m doing you a massive favour. You turned my world upside down but if I loved you, properly loved you, I wouldn’t have done the stuff I’ve done.

‘You’ve got to walk away. I’m sorry, it’s my decision. Goodbye Sarah.’

Damon then got up and walked away, as she was left devastated at the unexpected news.

And while fans didn’t know it at the time, the breakup marked Ciaran’s final scenes on the show.

A source said: ‘Ciaran’s loved his time on the show but Damon’s story came to a natural end for now.

‘The door has been left open but for now it’s time to say goodbye to him.’
